Counting Pages: K-Pop Hottie of the Week: Son Dongwoon

Yes, this week’s K-Pop guy is B2ST’s very own, Son Dongwoon.

Dongwoon is a member of Beast (stylized as both BEAST and B2ST), a six-member Korean band that is gaining popularity and fans fast. They're a much smaller band that Super Junior and BIGBANG, but they do have a lot of fans. He’s the youngest, and one of the main singers. Let’s get some facts out then, shall we?

Name: Son Dong-woon

Date of Birth: 6^th June 1991 (21, right now)

Height: 180 cm

Position in band: Secondary vocals, maknae (see below)

Dongwoon’s family, I guess you could say, was pretty average, except his father is a professor at a university. Dongwoon studied in the Philippines, and knows good English– from what I’ve heard his accent is pretty impressive. There’s actually a couple of rumours that part of his family’s European or foreign, because he does look kinda foreign, but no proof.

And he looks so natural blonde.

Dongwoon has a really nice, deep, powerful voice, and it’s distinct in B2ST, as the other singers have much higher voices. He really adds another dimension to the band. He also has a song with another member, Doojoon, where he shows off his impressive vocals and piano skills. He can also play the electric flute, and did I mention he also knows Chinese?

He’s pretty outgoing, and among the members falls in the side with ‘variety skills’– something really important in Korea, where they expect stars to be really funny in shows. Dongwoon’s pretty good at that, but he’s not really into it– a lot of stars act as MCs in shows, and he could too, easily, but doesn’t. He’s also really affectionate, and into hugging the other members.

In B2ST (yes, I will always write Beast like that, because it is freaking cool), Dongwoon is maknae–meaning he’s the youngest member. In K-Pop maknae should fall into a usual pattern– kind of slow, easily bullied. Dongwoon is the absolute opposite. He’s a quick thinker, and a little… old? He apparently acts old. He organizes all of the members’ fan-letters, makes sure everything is proper.

Dongwoon’s got a lot of musical talents, but despite his great height (that guy’s like a tower among the other B2ST members), he’s not a good athlete. He’s also not the best dancer, and is the worst bowler in the band.
